Understanding Loan Calculations
What is EMI?
EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is the fixed payment amount made by a borrower to a lender at a specified date each calendar month. EMIs are used to pay off both interest and principal each month.
EMI Formula
EMI = [P x R x (1+R)^N] / [(1+R)^N-1]
Where:
P = Principal loan amount
R = Monthly interest rate
N = Number of monthly installments
Tips to Reduce EMI
• Make larger down payment
• Choose longer tenure (increases total interest)
• Negotiate for lower interest rate
• Make prepayments when possible
• Compare multiple lenders
